Membership is limited to those honorably discharged veterans and current personnel of the United States Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard or Air Force who served at least one day of active duty during any of the service eligibility dates.
*All current active-duty service members are eligible until cessation of hostilities as determined by the U.S. government

World War II: December 7, 1941 - December 31, 1946
World War I: April 6, 1917 - November 11, 1918
Sons of the American Legion (SAL) Membership:
Male descendants (stepson and adopted sons included) of a veteran who died in service or subsequent to his or her honorable discharge from service during service eligibility dates.
Any woman who is eligible for membership in the American Legion (dual membership).
The mother, wife, daughter, sister, grand-daughter, great-grand-daughter, or grandmother (step relatives included) of members of The American Legion, and deceased veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces during service eligibility dates.
